Born in Buckinghamshire, trained in Cumbria, and currently living and working in London, Philpott is an artist who creates paintings, drawings and collages. His work playfully combines inspiration from a wide range of disciplines; cropping, cutting, isolating and juxtaposing found material to create pieces which break down any sense of an image or subject hierarchy. Often using chance as a creative tool, he explores and re-examines the relationship between artist and viewer, meaning and interpretation, authority and submission.

In addition to exhibiting his own work nationally, Philpott has worked for artists such as Damien Hirst and Mat Collishaw and is presently working at Tate. He is currently creating images of composite buildings, in which architectural motifs occupy an ambiguous space between construction and destruction, creation and decay, beginning and end.
